Well Said!!!

I have somewhat mixed feelings towards Jimmy Carter, but he hits the nail on the head this time.

Losing My Religion for Equality
Carter discusses his decision to leave the Baptist Church based on their discrimination against women, and decries it throughout society and religion in the Western World.

So, chesed and din are a pair.

Which others come as pairs?

P.S. I have a tag for religion; should I tag this one kefira?

Torah Reading

Dec. 10th, 2008 | 03:12 pm
mood: accomplished accomplished
music: Torah Trope (what else?)

This is my Torah reading spreadsheet.

I am within 15 minutes of ready to read any aliya listed in the front sheet (labeled "Aliyot"). Anything which I have read and then subsequently forgotten is not on that sheet. Anything that I discover I can no longer read with less than 3 repetitions with nikud is removed.

At the moment, it is becoming a major struggle not to forget everything I have already learned. My retention span is about 5 years for something I learn properly the first time, but since I do not read everything I learned every year, forgetting through lack of review is a real problem. I have started reviewing what I know every week with a rabbi/Biblical grammar guru checking my pronunciation and trope, but it is difficult to find time to practice what with being busy from from 7am to 6:45pm each day. Encouragement and help is much appreciated.

I am suddenly confronted with the idea that wearing a kippa might have the force of halacha behind it. Since my grounds for always refusing to wear one were a) it is just minhag, and b) I associate head-covering with weather gear or marriage, that tosses half of my argument, the forceful half, out the window. This requires more research . . .
